A Note on Rest
There is a gentleness to rest that is sometimes overlooked, but needed after a season of being a busy bee.
I experienced this the most in the month of July. I was feeling tired, uninspired and honestly just wanted a break from it all. I felt a burnout coming on from painting and decided it was best to put my brushes, paints and any expectations away.
I took about a month to rest and reset. At the time, I didn’t feel like painting anything too taxing. This resulted in only a few small scale projects being completed. If I am honest, they were more of a need than from inspiration. I painted two small bookmarks and gift name tags, they were cut by hand and painted on Bockingford paper, which I normally use for practice paintings. I used a layering technique to get some depth in them, especially in the flower petals and leaves.
To be honest, I still called this month a win because I was able to complete these small gifts and still paint a bit despite feeling tired.
I am grateful for the rest and reset before my favourite season, autumn.
